For Science!!!
The new Playstation 3 (PS3) gaming console may cost an arm and a leg to own, but you could put its processing power to good use during the time when you are not utilizing it. The user can download a program produced by a Stanford group onto their PS3 which allows the group to network together PS3s to solve protein folding mechanisms (an important process in biology and disease) while the PS3s are not being used by the owners. The program has a graphic interface at the user's end which allows them to observe the protein folding as it is being analyzed. Pretty cool and a beneficial way of utilizing the processing power of the PS3 during none gaming times!
